MANILA: Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. has officially launched the latest edition of the Yamaha Sniper, which combines racing excellence, metropolitan ingenuity and superior ride control. The new Sniper 155 and Sniper 155R provide better acceleration and lighter handling.
The latest edition of the Sniper was unveiled on Yamaha’s digital platform, the Yamaha Stadium. The program was featured on a sports news-inspired virtual hub that provided details about the new product, including its design and concept.
The Sniper is best known for its versatility as it delivers consistent excellence on race tracks and city streets. The new Sniper 155 has been designed to carry the DNA of Yamaha Racing, with an aerodynamic feel and a compact design. The modern design presents the powerful and dynamic movement of the motorcycle in the mass-forward silhouette with its short rear and upwards. The bike is also designed to offer a riding posture that resembles a super sports bike. The new Sniper 155 is ideal for cyclists looking for high performance riding with the latest technological advancements.
The Sniper is powered by a liquid-cooled 155cc SOHC four-valve fuel injection engine, mated to a six-speed transmission. It also comes with variable valve actuation (VVA), assist and slip clutch (A&S), and individual ignition timing maps. Cards change when the VVA system is active or inactive and separate cards are provided for low and high speeds. This makes the motor easy to operate when in gear at low speeds, but also generates lasting traction at higher speeds.
The new Sniper 155R comes with additional features useful for city walks. To achieve a fast and comfortable ride, the Sniper 155R is engineered to deliver high performance while showcasing cutting edge innovation and sleek design.
Professional racing car driver Marlon Stockinger had the opportunity to test drive the new Sniper 155R and share his experience with viewers. Some of the features that the Sniper 155R shares with the standard variant are a fuel tank capacity of 5.4 liters, an LCD instrument panel, and the LED low beam.
Exclusive features of the Sniper 155R include a smart key system, front brake with two-piston caliper, 12V power outlet and sport-style seat.
During the virtual event, Yamaha Racing Philippines manager Jordan Cornista and Team Philippines rider Masato Fernando also shared how they are preparing for future racing campaigns. It has also been revealed that McKinley Kyle Paz, the mystery rider who tested the new Sniper 155 at the Carmona circuit, will be the first Filipino to compete in the FIM CEV Repsol – Moto2 class under VR46 Junior Team. After competing in local and international races with the Sniper 150, Paz became the first Filipino to be part of the highly exclusive VR46. He was also the overall champion of the 150UB category of the Asian Road Racing Championship.
The new Sniper 155 is available in three color variations: Race Blu, Yellow Hornet and Black Raven. Its price is 114,900 P.
Meanwhile, the Sniper 155R is available in a Matte Titan color variant. Its suggested retail price is 120,900 P.
