WorldSBK Aragon Test: “Lap by lap”, the pace “improves” – Jonathan Rea | Superbikes of the world

Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki will have a final pre-season test at MotorLand Aragon on May 4-5, before the WorldSBK season opens in Teruel on May 21-23.

The six-time Superbike World Champion was present alongside his teammate Alex Lowes earlier this week for a two-day test on the 5.344 km (3.321 mile) circuit.

However, most of the test was impacted by bad weather conditions, so like the Pata Yamaha team, the reigning champions staged another two-day outing before the opening round.

Speaking after the shortened test, Rea alluded to his feeling of “ improving lap-based ” and mainly working on “ race setup ” as he aims to win a seventh title consecutive in 2021.

“The test was really positive. Even though the track was a bit ‘green’, because we had a lot of water on the surface and we had to wait for lunch to ride, we were able to confirm a lot of things that we did. tested at Montmelo, ”Rea said.

“The track is different, but it also has some similarities, which means the result is positive. These things were mostly chassis related, that meant we could really start putting the package together.

“I felt my pace was improving lap by lap. We rode a lot on our race setup, understanding our full potential and starting to really prepare for race weekend in a few weeks.

“We saw that the second day would be wet so we decided to do a time trial at the end of the first day and we were able to be quite quick. We will now move on to other tests before the race.

“I feel really good with the bike and the team; everyone has worked really hard and I am now delighted to go home and complete my preparations.”

It was Rea’s first return to the track after the only official WorldSBK test in Barcelona three weeks ago, where he was the fastest on both days.
