Assin Southern District Police Command on Saturday arrested a former detainee and his accomplice for allegedly stealing a tricycle and a motorbike in Manso, near the district capital Darmang.

The suspect, Abeku Acquah, 33, was jailed five months ago for stealing around 1,000 poultry from a poultry farm owned by a customs official in Assin-Manso.

A police source told the Ghana News Agency that the ex-convict and his 14-year-old accomplice were arrested in Assin-Kyinso after being told the tricycle they were riding had run out of fuel.

The items were reportedly stolen from Assin-Fosu in Fosu Municipality to be transported to Mankesim for sale.

Assin-Manso Assemblyman Mr Williams Appiah alleged that the suspect and other accomplices terrorized market women and shopkeepers in Assin-Andoe and praised the police for their efforts.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) was established on March 5, 1957, i.e. on the eve of Ghana’s independence, and charged with the “dissemination of truthful and unbiased information”. It was the first news agency to be established in sub-Saharan Africa. GNA was part of an overall communications policy that sought to harness the information arm of the state to build a viable, united, and cohesive nation-state. GNA has therefore played the unique role of mobilizing citizens for nation building, economic and social development, national unity and integration.
