Police impostor fined for not wearing a helmet on unlicensed motorcycle

A photo posted and shared on social media showed a man without a helmet wearing a vest with an investigation badge on the back riding a motorcycle without a license plate.

Banglamung police arrested a man for impersonating a law-breaking cop.

Pankorn Wimolmuk, 55, was fined 900 baht on December 16 after a photo posted on social media showed him driving a motorcycle without a license plate without wearing a helmet. Police fined him based on a photo, not real life.

The man was also wearing a police vest which suggests he worked for an investigative unit. Banglamung’s officers also said it violated the law, although he did not actually perform any police-like duties.

Most of the time, it made the cops look bad, they complained.

Pankorn has denied impersonating the police, saying he was wearing the vest because he was working with an investigator to hand over a document.

Regarding vehicle-related offenses, Pankorn said the license plate fell off and a previous head injury – caused by a motorcycle accident – prevented him from wearing a helmet now.

Police fined Pankorn Wimolmuk 900 baht for his transgression.
Pankorn claimed he was not wearing a helmet due to a head injury suffered in a motorcycle accident.
