Motorsport: Zulfahmi adamant about local racing Malaysian GP

PETALING JAYA: SIC Racing Team Manager Zulfahmi Khairuddin is working hard to ensure there is at least one local representative at the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit in October.

Zulfahmi said he was unable to make a confirmation at this time as negotiations were ongoing, but said the most likely candidate would be Syarifuddin Azman, also known as Damok, who is currently participating in the JuniorGP world championship with the SIC Racing team.

“We started putting the plan in place after seeing encouraging performances from my riders, especially Damok, who is now ranked fifth overall in the Junior GP World Championship (with 77 points).

Damok and another national driver, Danial Syahmi Ahmad Shahril, will take part in the fifth round of the Algarve Autodromo circuit in Portugal this weekend.

“We intend to have a wild card rider racing in our home round of the MotoGP world championship.

“My objective of going to Portugal to join the riders is not only to support them but also to discuss the allocation of wild cards with the teams.

“I can’t announce who the runner is because we are still in negotiations, but it is most likely Damok.

“We should be able to announce the name two weeks before the start of the Malaysian GP,” said the two-time Moto3 podium winner.
