By marking its centenary in 2021, Moto Guzzi not only celebrates a milestone but rather a starting point, a base on which to build the future. The start of a new century in which Moto Guzzi will continue to produce magnificent motorcycles, authentic and strong in character.

Bursting with charm and cutting-edge technology, these modern machines will be proudly made in Italy, as always, at the Mandello del Lario factory, which will continue to be the epicenter of Moto Guzzi passion.

Moto Guzzi’s headquarters will also benefit from a new look, the result of an ambitious reconstruction, expansion and development project in the years to come. The factory will be open to the public, becoming a place to meet and share the love of motorcycles. This brand new industrial vision, based on the concepts of environmental sustainability and efficient use of resources, will serve to promote a totally unique technical and cultural heritage by carefully balancing tradition and innovation, engineering and design.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, a first step towards 2121

“100” as in the history written during its first century, that of passion, know-how, innovation and success, both sporting and commercial. “100” as in the second century which has just started. “100” to indicate, as is the Moto Guzzi tradition, the displacement of the new very modern engine, the basis of a family of new generation motorcycles which will emerge in the future.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello will mark the start of a whole new chapter in Moto Guzzi history. A bike that refuses to conform or fit into a single category, it will combine the dynamic flair with the travel vocation that lives in the soul of every Moto Guzzi. An unprecedented Moto Guzzi, characterized by cutting-edge technology, while the brand opens the way to the future with innovative technical and aerodynamic solutions.

V100 Mandello will also present a design which, as with all Moto Guzzis, focuses on showcasing the unique and inimitable v-twin engine. Lines far from nostalgic and which offer a modern socket on the cornerstones of Moto Guzzi style. This is seen in the shapes of the tank, which appear to be molded directly onto the muscular cylinder heads, in the side panels under the seats, the slits of which clearly refer to the legendary 1976 Le Mans, and in the upper fairing, a tribute to the Le Mans. Mans 850 III from 1981. A 21st century motorcycle, by its style and technology, which embodies the character and authenticity typical of all Moto Guzzi.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello will represent a turning point in the brand’s history, the project introducing very important technological innovations. It will be the very first motorcycle to offer adaptive aerodynamics, and the first Moto Guzzi to be equipped with advanced electronic solutions such as the six-axis inertial platform, Cornering ABS, semi-active suspension, and the quick shift lever, to name just a few of the most important features.

And it will be the first Moto Guzzi to be powered by the new “compact block” engine, with its sophisticated technical characteristics. The tradition is respected with the 90 ° transverse V-shaped architecture of the twin, which guarantees this unique torque and an unmistakable Moto Guzzi sound, but the project is in fact completely new.

An innovative design has enabled the development of a compact and light engine, which is 103mm shorter than the small block V85 TT. The new twin-cylinder differs from all the engines recently built at Mandello del Lario by its cylinder heads, which are rotated by 90 °, a decision that increases comfort on board and streamlines the positioning of components in the intake and injection systems. electronic.

Its actual displacement is equivalent to 1042cc, while timing involves a double overhead camshaft with finger trackers and four valves per cylinder, which are chain driven. It also displays a wet sump lubrication system, a liquid cooling system and a hydraulically operated wet clutch.

Performance is unmatched, with a power greater than 115 HP and a couple of over 105 NM, 90% of which are already available at 3,500 rpm and the limiter set at 9,500 rpm. Data that effectively emphasizes the character and power of the new engine, courageous and with real driving already at low speed, and able to offer a driving experience worthy of the Moto Guzzi name.

The drive shaft uses a long single-sided aluminum swingarm, now positioned on the left. The driveshaft output position, much lower compared to previous Moto Guzzi engines, eliminates any suspension reaction due to torque transfer, without the need for linkage on the swingarm. This allows for a smooth ride on acceleration and release, like that offered by a chain drive, but with the typical benefits of the shaft, so less maintenance and greater cleanliness.

The sporty character of the V100 Mandello has not only to do with the performance of the new engine, but also the qualities of a compact and manoeuvrable chassis, which offers excitement in bends and fast passages but also real stability on longer journeys, with that inimitable front wheel feeling, synonymous with pleasure and driving pleasure. It is also thanks to the steel tube frame with a wheelbase of 1,486mm, the result of a top-notch Moto Guzzi construction culture and ideal for showcasing the agility of the bike.

Its touring attitude is reinforced thanks to the important comfort that the generous saddle and the active, relaxed riding position offer. The adoption of a single variable-section aluminum handlebar is in line with the model’s philosophy, perfect for ensuring control in sporty riding while providing a higher and more relaxed riding position on tour. Trip for two is the basis of the project, the passenger can count on a large and well-padded part of the saddle and practical grab handles, with a posture that ensures a relaxing journey. The complete and dedicated accessories catalog also includes a set of bicycle cases, which do not require any additional support for assembly and contain both the side bulk and the weight of the bicycle. Moto Guzzi technology also helps increase both comfort and air protection, with the world’s first adoption of a adaptive aerodynamic system which automatically adjusts the position of the deflectors on the sides of the 17.5 liter tank according to the speed and the driving mode selected. Fully raised aero appendages reduce air pressure on the rider by 22%, bringing the V100 Mandello closer to the level of air protection offered by bulkier and less athletic hikers, also thanks to the protection provided by the upper fairing, the height of which can be adjusted electronically.

This system contributes to what is a top notch electronics package, including the Electronic Ride by Wire accelerator for precise control of performance and consumption, the ECU Marelli 11MP, the six-axis inertial platform for efficient management of electronic controls, cruise control and Cornering ABS to ensure active safety when braking in bends.

Four Driving modes are available, namely To travel, sport, Rain and Road. Each of them manages three different engine maps, four levels of traction control, three levels of engine braking and (in the version which introduces them as standard) also Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension calibration, which automatically adapts, minute by minute, to the type of riding and road conditions, for the best possible behavior of the bike in all situations.

As always, Moto Guzzi technology aims not only to ensure a safe and exciting ride, but also to make life on board easier. The rider only has to select the riding mode that best matches their riding requirements to benefit from the best automatic adjustment of electronic parameters, which can also be personalized so that each rider can find their preferred settings. 5 ″ color is also included as standard TFT instrumentation, full LED lighting with DRL and the “cornering lights”With a pair of additional lights that illuminate the entire corner, increasing visibility when leaning.

The V100 Mandello is available in two versions, which differ in their finish. The more complete version includes the semi-active Öhlins suspension as standard, but also the quick change, heated grips and the Moto Guzzi MIA multimedia platform which allows a smartphone to be connected to the instrumentation via Bluetooth to extend its functions. Moto Guzzi MIA includes both the infotainment system for managing the voice assistant, phone calls and music via the intuitive handlebar controls, and the GPS function, which allows the rider to view directions directly on the the dashboard once a destination is set on the smartphone.
