Maura Higgins pays tribute to her late best friend Andrew on his birthday

Maura Higgins posted a touching tribute to her late best friend on the fourth anniversary of his death.

Love Island star’s boyfriend Andrew Rowan was killed in a motorcycle crash in July 2017.

Taking her Instagram Stories earlier, Maura shared a black and white photo of her and Andrew in her memory.

She captioned the photo: “Another year has passed … but you will always be in my heart, because in there you are still alive.

“I still love you,” she added.

Maura’s best friend and fellow Islander Molly-Mae Hague sent her flowers to comfort her on this difficult day.

Sharing a photo of the gorgeous bouquet, the Lady from Longford said: ‘Friends like you. I love you so much @mollymae.

Maura previously admitted that she blamed herself for Andrew’s death as he asked her to join him for dinner the night of his death, but she refused.

Speaking to the Mirror, she said: “For so long I thought if I had gone to dinner with him that day, when he asked for it, he would not have been on this motorcycle.

“My family kept telling me, ‘Maura, you can’t think of it like this, it was going to happen’, but I just kicked myself for so long and got pissed off about it for so long time.”

She added that she saw Andrew just hours before he was killed.

“He arrived on a motorcycle. I asked him, ‘Why are you on the motorcycle?’ because he never used to drive, and he said ‘oh it’s a good day [to drive it], you know?’ And then he left.

Maura’s ex-boyfriend, James, broke the tragic news to her.

“It was a blur, I think I was in shock for a lot. I didn’t crack properly until late at night, ”said the 30-year-old.

“I was still sitting on my couch and James was with me, and I remember something came to my head and just hit me, and I couldn’t physically breathe. I had such a panic attack. It took me a long time to get well again.
