Cotabato City POLICE are searching for motorcycle attackers who shot and killed a councilman and injured two others in separate incidents over the past two days, an official said Friday.
“We are looking for several people [and are] dig deeper into this matter,” said Major Amil Andungan, Commander of Cotabato City Police Station 2.
Andungan identified the victim as Alberto Tampos, 43, of the village of Rosary Heights 9 in the city.
Tampos was driving along Governor Gutierrez Avenue on his motorbike around 11 a.m. when the two suspects on motorbikes rushed from behind and shot him.
“He suffered four gunshot wounds to the head,” Andungan said.
He added that he managed to speak to the family of the slain official who said Tampos had no known enemies.
“The family could not explain why he was murdered,” Andungan said.
Tampos had been a village councilor for five years.
He was the second village official killed in a gun attack in the city of Cotabato since January.
On Wednesday evening, two men were also seriously injured by gunshots in the village of Balabaran, in the city of Cotabato.
Lieutenant Colonel. Carmelo Mungkas, the city’s police spokesman, said Norodin Ali, 60, and Bolbs Adzal, 45, both residents of the village, sat next to each other outside the house of Ali when they were shot.
Two men on motorbikes arrived around 6:30 p.m. and shot Ali in the chest, the same bullet also hitting Adzal.
Both were confined to a hospital in Cotabato City.
