Man seriously injured after being pushed off his motorbike by a van driver on the A5

Police are looking for a van driver who assaulted a 50-year-old man on the A5 on Watling Street in Burbage.

The driver pushed the man, who is Earl Shelton, off his motorcycle, causing serious injury.

The rider was taken to the Royal Leicester Infirmary where he was treated for a broken arm and dislocated elbow.

He has just been released from the hospital after undergoing a second operation and is still recovering.

At around 5 p.m. on Sunday April 18, the driver of the red van pulled up in front of the man who was riding his motorbike along the A5.

The driver of the van got out of his vehicle and pushed the 50-year-old rider to the ground.

He quickly fled the scene and the police are now calling all witnesses.

The motorcyclist’s daughter said: “My father was just released from the hospital after having a second operation, so he is still recovering.”

Police confirmed that no one had been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Leicestershire Police statement read: ‘Officers investigating an incident where a motorcyclist was assaulted on A5 Watling Street in Burbage are calling for witnesses.

“It happened just before 5 pm on Sunday April 18th.

“A red van pulled up in front of the motorcycle, causing it to stop. A man got out of the van and pushed the motorcyclist – a man in his 50s – to the ground.

“The rider suffered a broken arm and dislocated elbow as a result of the fall.

“The driver of the van has left the scene.”

Investigating Officer PC Adam Hicks said: “Please refer to this Sunday evening – were you traveling on the A5 to Burbage? Did you see what happened?

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or to any motorist with dash cameras in their vehicles. Any information you have may assist my investigation.”
