Man dies after motorcycle hits pothole in Maharashtra’s Thane, second incident in a week

A 23-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle hit a pothole in the town of Thane, Maharashtra, a city official said.

The accident happened near the Gaimukh tollgate on Ghodbunder Road on Tuesday, Thane Municipal Corporation regional disaster management chief Santosh Kadam said in a statement.

He said the man, a resident of Amrut Nagar in Mumbra town, was on his way to Thane town when his motorcycle hit a pothole.

The man fell from his vehicle and suffered serious head and leg injuries.

He was rushed to Thane civilian hospital in an ambulance by police where medics declared him dead, the official said.

Kasarwadavali police recorded one accidental death case, he added.

This is the second such incident in Thane district in the past week.

On September 16, a woman and her son died instantly after their motorbike struck a pothole in Mankoli Naka on the Mumbai-Nashik highway as they returned home after praying at the residence of ‘a parent during the Ganpati festival.
