It’s been 14 years since Ducati saw one of its riders become champion. This feat came in 2007 when Casey Stoner finished the championship with 367 points, compared to 242 points for Dani Pedrosa – a difference of 125 points for the Honda rider.
However, and judging by how the 2021 season unfolds for Francesco Bagnaia, especially the second half, fans of the Italian brand will be able to see in # 63 an idol who will have all the conditions to be one of the contenders for the title next year. Like Stoner, Troy Bayliss and Carl Fogarty also gave Ducati a lot of joy when they became World Superbike Champions.
In an interview with La Stampa, Bagnaia sought to distance himself from Stoner and Bayliss, but assured that the goal is the same. The Italian also defended that although talent has always been one of the pillars of the sport, the truth is that the physical performance of the athlete is becoming more and more important.
“I’m different from Stoner or Bayliss, but we’re all runners and we all have the same goal: to win. In racing, I am definitely different from everyday life, talent is that form of madness that allows you to give something extra, which makes you win. In motorcycles, this has always been the protagonist, even if the race has become more and more an athletic performance in recent years ”, he said.
