KTM probably had one of the most competitive weekends this season. The Austrian manufacturer saw Brad Binder succeed in starting for the first time on the front row, in third position, at the same time as Miguel Oliveira started from eighth place. In the end, Binder finished second and Oliveira finished fifth after riding at the bottom of the podium.
In an official statement, Francesco Guidotti – Team Manager of the Red Bull KTM Factory team – praised the results of the two riders and underlined that the results obtained in qualifying allow him to aspire to other objectives in the race.
“Great results here at Motegi and starting from the front row meant we had another good and better qualifying. When we start a race from the front row, we know we can show our potential. Brad took the opportunity to aim for the podium: an incredible job. Also brilliant by Miguel in 5th after pushing for the podium for half a race”.
The Italian also praised the work of the whole team and the decisions made with ‘limited information’:
– It was a strange and demanding weekend with only one dry session on Friday, so the team and engineers did an amazing job and made the right tire choice with little information available. It’s a team result today. The bike is still improving so we are confident in the direction we have taken. Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far
