Sydney-based Australian company Tech Forcite has delivered on its promise to change the face of motorcycle technology with the launch of its MK1S smart helmet. The feature-packed cover offers a patented visual alert system, and built-in camera and audio functionality.
Designed to meet ECE 22.05 safety certification, the helmet is the brainchild of company CEO and co-founder Alfred Boyadgis, who teamed up with industrial designer Julian Chow to radically improve motorcyclist safety following a crash.
The duo’s vision was to create a helmet that no longer required bulky cameras or clip-on helmets, with the ability to alert pilots of dangers ahead. The journey began with the MK1, before a team of 10 Forcite engineers spent two years developing the new model.
With an investment of $10.1 million in R&D, the MK1S was born, and the award-winning invention now delivers a more dynamic and safer driving experience.
“Where others use clumsy tech clip-ons in their shoehorn helmets, we’ve honed all
part of the Forcite MK1S to create the next generation of smart headphones, Boyadgis said.
“We captured thousands of on-road return points sent by Forcite MK1 riders. Our design engineers used this information to create more luxurious padding, premium sound, and to improve camera quality in the Forcite MK1S,” he added.
“Our driver alert system and edge LED display are even more responsive to real-time road conditions, helping drivers stay safe. These are the most advanced Forcite helmets we’ve ever created. Bikers will love them.
With a reimagined traffic alert ecosystem, drivers are connected through the Forcite app to
navigation, speed cameras, mobile camera alerts and live traffic conditions. These are then
communicated via a unique peripheral vision LED display integrated into the helmet.
Designed to be non-distracting, the animations communicate alerts to the pilot safely. Regardless of the time of day, ambient light sensors adjust the brightness. No need to look down displays, the Forcite MK1S keeps its head and focus on the front of the road.
The Forcite MK1S also features premium in-helmet sound, powered by a detachable 40mm headset.
Harman Kardon speakers. The redesigned comfort cut speaker cavity provides riders with an unparalleled sound experience on the bike, in a seamless design.
The speaker system is paired with dual omnidirectional microphones, tuned for voice clarity and wind reduction so riders can take voiceover calls and videos. In the new model, color balance and camera performance have also been improved.
This means riders can really capture their nighttime ride in low light conditions. A high impact design and wider angle lens have also been added to provide reliable and continuous recording even in most helmet impact situations.
The camera offers 1080p HD resolution with 30-60 FPS frame rate, H.264 encoding and a quarter-inch Sony IMX sensor. Riders can share footage of their adventures through the Forcite app, and with in-app editing, these can be clipped and shared directly to social media.
The Forcite MK1S has redesigned 3D formed foam throughout, with cheek pads and crown liner providing a contoured fit. A new neck guard design with expandable chin bar creates a tighter seal around the neck, also significantly reducing wind noise.
Premium sweat wicking materials have been selected for durability, comfort and fit and the Forcite MK1S visor now includes the Pinlock Max Vision 120. moisture absorption to keep the visor clear.
The lightest smart helmet on the market, the Forcite MK1S features a hand-laid carbon fiber shell, with ventilation provided by an eight-ventilation system with optimized channel airflow, designed to keep cool of the pilot whatever the conditions.
Following an accident, or even a fall of helmet, the owners of Forcite can send their helmet to
have the hull replaced (at a cost) and recover the technical components. All electronic devices will be checked and those that are damaged will be replaced free of charge.
The first version of the new helmet has already sold out, and the second batch is fast selling. The Forcite MK1S is available for pre-order at www.forcitehelmets.com and costs $1299. The first orders should be delivered in June.
