KTM showed off the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R at its Adventure Rally in Tamarack, Idaho. The 890 Adventure is already the alpha dog in the ADV class under 1000cc but KTM opted to make a few updates to solidify that title. The 2023 890 Adventure R uses the same engine and chassis platform, but gets significant suspension, electronics and styling updates.
The fully adjustable WP XPLOR forks and WP XPLOR PDS rear shock have been tuned to provide a more comfortable ride while delivering the performance expected of more aggressive riders.
The styling has also been updated with elements more in line with the factory KTM 450 Rally bikes. The redesigned body and tank offer a sleeker look and improved ergonomics along with claimed improvements in aerodynamics and wind protection. It still features a relatively low windshield and a tall front fender.
The 2023 890 Adventure R features a new 5-inch TFT dashboard that includes USB-C connectors. It features an all-new look with colorful pictograms and intuitive graphics that allow for easy menu navigation. Additionally, the latest upgrades include a step-by-step navigation system that allows riders to select their preferred destination from the bike menu. A new phone call feature also allows a favorites call option, with up to 10 numbers, or the ability to call any of the last 10 numbers called.
Updated electronics include the latest generation Bosch ABS control unit which uses a 6D sensor which measures the angle, pitch, speed and general behavior of the bike to apply the correct braking force for your needs. given. It also includes off-road ABS that’s built into the optional OFFROAD or RALLY modes, so you don’t have to separately select your ABS setting from your chosen engine settings.
Most of the optional electronic upgrades that previously had to be purchased to try will be unlocked for the first 1500 kilometers with the new DEMO MODE. This will allow riders to determine which features they can’t live without and choose to only pay to unlock them when the first 1,500 kilometer test period is reached.
