Arcimoto and Lightning Motorcycles Begin Development of World’s Fastest Three-Wheel Reclining Electric Motorcycle
Built on the platform of the Lightning LS 218 and equipped with Arcimoto’s patented reclining tricycle technology, the new electric bike will seek to set the record for the fastest three-wheeled motorcycle in Bonneville.
EUGENE, Ore .â (BUSINESS WIRE) âArcimoto, Inc.® (NASDAQ: FUV), maker of fun, affordable and ultra-efficient electric vehicles for everyday drivers and fleets, today announced a collaboration with Lightning Motorcycles with the aim of developing the world’s fastest reclining three-wheel motorcycle – gasoline or electric – using its patented Tilting Motor Works TRiO reclining tricycle technology.
âFrom the moment I met Richard Hatfield and saw the Lightning for myself in Bonneville, I knew there was the potential to create an electric trike unlike anything in history. motorcycles, âsaid Bob Mighell, tilt director for Arcimoto, who set the ground speed record for 3-wheel motorcycles during the 2013 Motorcycle Speed ââTrials held at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. “This will be the first time that we have equipped an electric bicycle with the TRiO kit, and it will certainly not be the last, as we are moving towards a sustainable future faster than ever.”
The Lightning SuperBike set a record as the world’s fastest production motorcycle, electric or otherwise, with the official SCTA world record of 215.960 mph and a best timed race of 218.637 mph at Bonneville during Speedweek in 2011. The race record was powered entirely by solar energy at an estimated cost of just 8 cents.
âAs the world’s leading manufacturer of high performance electric motorcycles, we are delighted to bring our technology and know-how to the collaboration with Arcimoto for the three-wheel market. The convergence of our proprietary technology, the adoption of electric vehicles in the market and the widely recognized environmental benefits of clean energy propulsion make this an excellent and exciting time to bring these vehicles to the mass market, âsaid Richard Hatfield. , Founder and CEO of Lightning Motorcycles. . âOur vision is to see Lightning electric motorcycles provide performance-oriented, environmentally friendly transportation, as well as adrenaline-inducing fun, for both novice and experienced riders around the world. This collaboration amplifies our vision. It is an honor to build the first electric bike equipped with the TRiO alongside âBonneville Bob Mighellâ, who has proven throughout his career that trikes can and should fly.
The Arcimoto Tilting Motor Works TRiO is the leading three-wheel tilt conversion kit for touring motorcycles. TRiO allows the rider to lean naturally, maintaining performance and the thrill of the ride while increasing safety, stability and confidence. TRiO kits can be supplemented with the TiltLock leveling system, allowing the bike to stand on its own when stopped at lights or in traffic.
âThis collaboration is something that could only happen between two legendary Bonneville speed demons,â said Mark Frohnmayer, Founder and CEO of Arcimoto. âWhile Plaid-level performance has never been part of Arcimoto’s story, proving that our reclining tricycle technology beyond ridiculous speed will give us and our customers extra comfort than our future. Micromobility solutions are stable under the most demanding conditions. In addition, this first adaptation of the TRiO for an electric motorcycle is fully in line with Arcimoto’s mission to catalyze sustainable and emission-free mobility.
The collaborative trike prototype is expected to be unveiled at the FUV and Friends Summer Showcase at the Portland International Raceway on July 26.
