20-year-old man jailed for 15 years for attempted motorcycle theft in Volta region

A Sogakope Circuit Court presided over by His Excellency Isaac Addo sentenced a 20-year-old man to 15 years hard labour.

The convict, Eyram Botwe was brought before the court on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, on the charge of attempted theft.

He was part of a gang of thieves who pepper sprayed a biker in an attempt to steal his Haojue motorcycle in Agorve near Akatsi.

The convict appeared in court, pleaded guilty to the offense and was found guilty on his own plea.

In delivering judgment, His Lordship Isaac Addo said he took into account that the accused was a first-time offender hence his incarceration for fifteen years.

Two other suspects arrested in connection with the robbery were also taken into custody by the same court when they appeared before it.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy and theft when they appeared in court on Thursday, January 27, 2022.

They are expected to reappear in court on February 10, 2022.

In a police statement issued by the Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, it is noted that “theft of motorbikes, mainly Okada, has become quite prevalent in recent times and the command is confident that the recent arrests by Akatsi district and the resulting convictions would stem the tide.
